Seconded Police Officers play a vital role in NYJS; requiring them to work alongside our staff and with young people at the entry point to YJS, through to those who become subject to Detention and Training Orders.
We focus on planned interventions such as risk management of young people subject to bail or those listed in the daily briefing cohort. Some work already commenced with Police led Tackling Serious Violence scheme in the Wellingborough area. YJS Police in partnership with CIRV, have voluntarily engaged with some young people who have demonstrated significant risk and we are now targeting other Police identified areas of concern in the county.
YJS Police have attended a Northampton Secondary School on a weekly basis offering a ‘drop in’ service to young people and have delivered interventions to classes and individuals identified by teaching staff. This project has proved to be extremely successful; which has led to it being developed and promoted in other schools in Northamptonshire, which now includes partner agencies such as CIRV and the ACE Team’s.
